Job Description

Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)

Delta Health Center (DHC), located in historic Mound Bayou, MS, is one of the nation's oldest community health centers. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), DHC is committed to providing high-quality, affordable healthcare to underserved communities. We proudly serve patients across the Mississippi Delta with compassion, respect, and a deep sense of community responsibility within our clinic system.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Primary Care Delivery:
    Provide primary care to women of all ages, including adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations, within the clinic system.
  • Clinical Management:
    Provide clinic-based prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care for patients with normal and uncomplicated pregnancies.
  • Independent Practice:
    Work independently with other members of the medical and OB/GYN team, with entitlements to specific clinical privileges approved by the clinic's Medical Executive Board.
  • Interdisciplinary

    Collaboration:

    Participate in an interdisciplinary team that provides comprehensive primary care to patients, ensuring seamless transitions between midwifery and physician-led care when necessary.
  • Assessment & Diagnosis:
    Perform patients' histories and physicals, risk factor assessments, ordering of therapeutic and diagnostic tests (e.g., labs, imaging, ultrasounds), and attend to consultations.
  • Prescriptive Authority:
    Prescribe medications and family planning resources following the clinic's policy, formulary, and relevant State regulations.
  • Health

    Education:

    Provide health education and counseling to patients and families on prenatal nutrition, wellness, breastfeeding, and reproductive health.
  • Scope Management:
    Consult with OB/GYN physicians on cases that are beyond the scope of qualification of the CNM or require specialized medical/surgical management.
Requirements

Education and/or

Experience:

  • Degree:
    Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a specialty in Midwifery.
  • Certification:
    Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) certification from the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
  • Licensure:
    Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Mississippi.
  • DEA Registration:
    Current DEA registration or eligibility to obtain — required.
  • BLS/CPR:
    Current BLS/CPR certification required. NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification preferred.
  • Experience:

    A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife is preferred. New graduates of accredited CNM programs with strong clinical rotations are encouraged to apply.

Technical

Skills:

  • EHR Proficiency:

    Experience with Electronic Health Record systems; eClinical

    Works or similar platforms preferred.
  • Software:
    Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ultrasound:
    Competency in obstetric ultrasound and fetal monitoring preferred.

    Proficiency in a second language common to the local Delta region is a plus.
