Job Description:The Biodesign Institute's Center for Personalized Diagnostics is seeking a Research Technician to support the Protein Array Core. This position performs high-throughput functional proteomics and multiplexed immunoassays using NAPPA (Nucleic Acid Programmable Protein Array) protein microarrays and MISPA (Multiplexed In-Solution Protein Array) platforms for internal and external investigators. The Research Technician maintains laboratory operations and sample inventories and contributes to the delivery of high-quality research services in a collaborative core facility environment.
PositionSalary Range:
$21.20 - $22.62 per hour; DOE
Essential Duties:- Perform high-throughput functional proteomics and multiplexed immunoassays using NAPPA protein microarrays and MISPA in-solution protein assay platforms in support of internal and external investigators using established laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Prepare biological buffers, reagents, solutions, samples, and assay materials required for routine laboratory operations.
- Perform microarray printing operations according to established protocols and provide scheduled coverage by working periodic early morning or afternoon to evening laboratory shifts as required by printing schedules.
- Perform routine quality control procedures, including agarose gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, and other assay quality assessments to ensure data quality and reproducibility.
- Operate, maintain, and perform basic troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation used in functional proteomics, molecular biology, cell culture, and microarray workflows.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, sample inventories, quality control documentation, and electronic databases.
- Maintain inventories of biological specimens and research materials, including serum samples, bacterial glycerol stocks, purified DNA, and other laboratory resources.
- Perform routine laboratory maintenance, monitor laboratory supplies, and assist with equipment upkeep to support efficient core facility operations.
- Collaborate effectively with core facility personnel, faculty, researchers, students, and external users to provide high-quality research services and technical support.
- Assist with training students, staff, and laboratory users in core facility procedures and operation of laboratory equipment, as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience working in a biological research laboratory through employment, undergraduate research, internships, or other hands‑on laboratory experience.
- Experience with molecular biology, protein chemistry, cell culture, or immunoassay techniques.
- Experience operating or learning laboratory instrumentation and following established laboratory protocols.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail, including maintaining accurate laboratory records and sample inventories.
- Demonstrated ability to follow detailed written protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Familiarity with MS Office features such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Activities are performed in a laboratory and office environment requiring extended periods of standing, walking, and occasional sitting.
