Responsibilities- Keep watch from a tower or at a gate and inspect incoming and outgoing vehicles.
- Escort offenders to and from appointments and places of confinement.
- Ensure compliance with all rules and regulations pertaining to offender behavior and welfare.
- Maintain discipline and exercise control of offenders to prevent riots, escapes, and fires.
- Assist in supervising feeding of offenders and enforce regulations of sanitation and personal care.
- Conduct perimeter checks inside and outside of all buildings; maintain counts of offenders.
- Complete reports and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to abide by the MS State Personnel Board and MDOC rules, regulations, and procedures; operate in accordance with state and federal laws.
- Demonstrated sound decision-making and effective communication skills to ensure safety, security, and order of the facility.
- Typically requires graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED or High School Equivalency Diploma).
- 0-2 years of correctional or secure facility experience preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age; must complete the training program at the Mississippi Department of Corrections or equivalent within another state as approved by MDOC.
- Employees in this job classification under the age of 21 shall be assigned to posts designated as non-peace officer status posts.
