Position Summary

The Crane Operator is responsible for operating a mobile crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads, and to unload crane accessories from trailers or support vehicles. The Operator works with riggers and site supervision via verbal or hand signals to determine required load movement, and may serve as ground crew depending on tasks. The operator enforces safety procedures and maintains logs of vehicle repair status and working hours (FMCSA).

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operate various types of cranes:
    All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Crawlers, Industrial, Hydraulic Trucks, Conventional Trucks, and Boom Trucks.
  • Operate diesel‑powered Hydraulic Truck Cranes mounted on truck chassis to lift material, objects, or personnel.
  • Drive the crane to work sites and set up the equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and company rules regarding cribbing/matting, cribbing blocks or mats.
  • Direct the activities of oilers, truck drivers, or helpers during assembly and disassembly of the equipment.
  • Place cribbing blocks or pads, and use levers and foot pedals to rotate the super structure, raise and lower the boom, and control cables.
  • Operate the crane according to signals from the oiler or helper, and modify boom lengths if necessary.
  • Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, as well as daily and monthly equipment inspections.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and carry tools for on‑the‑job repairs.
  • Properly barricade counterweight tail swing and working radius.
  • Assume full responsibility for safety during assembly, disassembly, and operation of the crane, wearing required PPE.
  • Understand and complete job tickets for customer acceptance of jobsite responsibility and billing.
  • Drive the truck to worksites and unload it.
  • Expect brief travel; generally not longer than a week.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High‑school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of crane operation experience.
  • Knowledge of rigging, cranes, and commercial moving and storage.
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and write in English.
  • Current NCCCO certification, TLL (TSS preferred), or equivalent crane operator certification.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and ANSI standards for crane operations.
  • Minimum of a CDL‑B license required; CDL‑A preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and DOT physical/fitness test.
  • Knowledgeable of LBC/LBT helpful but not required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; technical and functional skills desired.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Tasks include climbing, standing, walking, sitting, lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, handling tools and controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus. The operator may be exposed to extreme year‑round outdoor conditions, weekends, and holidays.
