Position Summary

We are seeking a versatile and dependable Class A CDL Utility Driver to support transportation and operational needs across multiple routes, locations, and business functions. This position serves as a critical backup and support role, providing coverage for route drivers, vacation schedules, call-offs, and increased operational demands.

The ideal candidate is flexible, safety-focused, and capable of adapting to changing schedules, equipment, and customer requirements.

The Utility Driver plays a key role in maintaining uninterrupted service while ensuring compliance with all DOT regulations, company policies, and safety standards.

  • Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles, including tractor‑trailers, tankers, roll‑off trucks, walking floor trailers, end dumps, and other company equipment as assigned.
  • Provide route coverage for drivers on vacation, leave, training, or during staffing shortages.
  • Assist with special projects, customer service requests, and emergency operational needs.
  • Perform pre‑trip, post‑trip, and DOT‑required vehicle inspections.
  • Complete all required DOT logs, inspection reports, service tickets, and delivery documentation accurately and timely.
  • Load, transport, and unload materials safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain communication with dispatch, supervisors, and customers throughout the workday.
  • Follow assigned routes while adapting to changing schedules and operational priorities.
  • Ensure equipment cleanliness and report maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and operational briefings.
  • Represent the company professionally while interacting with customers and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL‑A).
  • Minimum of 2 years of verifiable tractor‑trailer driving experience.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Current DOT Medical Card.
  • Ability to pass a DOT drug screen, background check, and road test.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, overnight travel, and extended hours when needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating multiple equipment types, including tankers, roll‑offs, walking floors, and end dumps.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs).
  • Previous experience in waste, recycling, agriculture, environmental services, transportation, or logistics operations.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Adaptability and willingness to work in various operational environments.

  • Basic computer, smartphone, and GPS navigation proficiency.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb in and out of commercial vehicles multiple times per day.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to tolerate dust, odors, noise, and other environmental conditions associated with transportation and industrial operations.
  • Primarily operates commercial vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Works at customer locations, terminals, transfer stations, farms, processing facilities, and operational sites.
  • Exposure to changing weather conditions and varying work schedules.
  • May require overnight travel and occasional out‑of‑town assignments.
