A Brief Overview

The Distribution Center Shipping Clerk is responsible for ensuring that all shipping and receiving documents and related functions are completed accurately and timely. The DC Shipping Clerk will actively communicate with customers to resolve discrepancies and comply with routing guides and other special requests, ensuring shipments meet customer needs and avoid chargebacks. The incumbent will have daily, frequent communication and interactions with transportation carriers, vendors, and drivers.

The incumbent will also provide support to the DC Routing Planners and the DC Senior Transportation Specialist as required. The DC Shipping Clerk will also provide support to the logistics/compliance department as needed. Other additional duties will be performed as necessary by BDC management.

Leadership Responsibilities
  • This position does not have people leadership responsibilities.
What You’ll Do
  • Ensure accuracy of all shipping documents by adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Ensure drivers receive proper documentation.
  • Assure orders and shipping quantities match picking documents and labels are properly applied.
  • Ensure processes are followed with regard to the security and movement of goods out of the DC.
  • Answer and route customer calls or inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Initiate and answer tracking inquiries.
  • Arrange the movement of freight to consignee and ensuring information is updated accurately.
  • Compile and maintain all data records relative to shipping activities.
  • Coordinate with carriers and freight forwarders to schedule pick up of shipments.
  • Enter data into warehouse management system relative to all shipping activities.
  • Assist DC Routing Planners and DC Sr. Specialist with duties as required. Provides support to management as required.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
  • Embodies and demonstrates company ethics and values.
  • Abides by all federal, state and local laws.
How You’ll Be Successful
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines and department results.
  • Knowledge of public safety procedures of relevant equipment, policies, and strategies to protect people and data.
  • Knowledge of principles and process for providing customer service, including needs assessments and meeting quality standards.
  • Knowledgeable in SAP (as applicable) and WMS - optional.
  • Skilled at managing administrative and clerical procedures such as managing files and records, and general office procedures.
  • Skilled at problem solving and developing options to implement solutions.
  • Able to understand perceptual vision by identifying objects that are in close proximity.
  • Able to communicate in written and oral forms.
  • Must be able to communicate in English.
  • Microsoft Office Application tools experience - preferred.
  • Manual dexterity required:
    Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, feel and type; reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to see, hear, speak and write clearly in order to communicate with employees and/or other customers.
  • Must be able to count.
  • Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb ladders, some lifting.
  • Must be able to lift, move and carry up to 20 pounds without assistance.
What You’ll Need
  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • 2-3 years Experience in an office environment preferred.
