Overview

The Alexander Blewett III School of Law invites applications for a Law Registrar to lead academic records, registration, scheduling, exam administration, and graduation certification for the law school. This position plays a central role in supporting the academic mission by ensuring accurate academic records, reporting, and compliance with University of Montana policies, FERPA regulations, and American Bar Association (ABA) standards, while providing a high level of service to students, faculty, and staff.

The Law Registrar works collaboratively across the law school and campus to support student success from matriculation through graduation and bar certification. The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to managing complex academic processes with professionalism and discretion. Position has an expected start date of June 1, 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee student academic records, including grades, enrollment status, transcripts, GPA, and class rank.
  • Manage course registration, academic scheduling, and classroom assignments.
  • Coordinate and administer all aspects of law school exams, including scheduling, security, accommodations, and anonymous grading.
  • Verify degree completion and process graduation applications.
  • Certify graduates and students for bar admission, character and fitness reviews, clerkships, and student practice requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA, ABA standards, and University of Montana policies.
  • Prepare and submit required reports for accreditation, rankings, and institutional research.
  • Supervise staff within the Law Registrar’s Office and Student Services.
  • Serve as a key resource for students and faculty regarding academic policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Highly developed administrative, organizational, and leadership skills, including the ability to supervise and train staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, law school curricula, FERPA regulations, ABA accreditation standards, and University of Montana policies.
  • Demonstrated experience in student services, academic advising, registrar functions, or related areas, with a strong commitment to student success.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diplomacy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Proficiency with databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and academic software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of law school academic policies, FERPA requirements, ABA accreditation standards, and University of Montana policies and procedures.
  • Experience with Exam Soft, Canvas, Banner, or similar academic and instructional technologies.
  • Proven record of successful supervisory experience in a collaborative, people-focused environment.

Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract, and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
