The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula is seeking an EDUCATION ASSISTANT to join their team. This position performs a variety of duties to support the Director of Education at the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula.

Representative Examples of Work

Provides engaging educational programs and educational field trips at the museum, on the grounds, and at outreach events. Assists with developing education materials, guides and other information related to the museum programs and activities. Assists with the planning and execution of school field trips. Assists with development and execution of summer camps. Opens and closes museum and exhibit buildings including disarming and resetting the internal alarm system.

Assists with museum special events as directed. Assists the Education Director with organizing and cataloging the museum's Education Collection and in care of the museum's historic buildings. Maintains records of educational programs and activities. Serves as site manager on weekends. Performs a variety of duties to facilitate a positive visitor experience and ensures security of the facility and grounds as assigned staff person for weekends and holidays.

Opens and closes museum and outside buildings; disarms and resets the internal alarm system; makes visual checks for irregularities, damage, and maintenance needs. Collects admission fees; performs salesclerk duties for the museum gift store as required; and keeps accurate records to report and balance receipts. Oversees volunteers who perform receptions duties; answer telephones; greet visitors; provide information about the museum properties and exhibits using well defined policies and procedures;

Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires high school graduation or GED.
  • Experience working with children or in an area related to museums, education or history preferred.
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Requires a valid driver's license.
Physical/Environmental Demands

Work schedule may vary and may require evening and weekend hours. Work on the 4th of July is required. Works primarily in the museum but must frequently drive an automobile to remote sites. Work site requires frequent climbing of stairs or walking over uneven ground. Requires some physical activity in maintenance, repair and installation of exhibits. Requires lifting and carrying, frequently at 20-25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 #.
