Great Falls College MSU located in historic Great Falls MT, is dedicated to providing a high quality educational experience that supports student success and meets the needs of the community. GFC core learning outcomes that staff & faculty stress in curriculum include critical thinking, communication and professionalism. The goal of the GFC Service Learning project is to strengthen student success, equity, and institutional impact at Great Falls College MSU by developing and sustaining a coordinated, campus-wide service-learning and volunteer engagement infrastructure.
For students, service-learning and volunteering bridge classroom theory with real world needs, deepening academic understanding and building vital career skills that will boost employment opportunities and thereby directly alleviate future poverty. Additionally, these service learning and volunteer activities are proven to significantly boost student mental and physical health by reducing stress, combating isolation, and providing a sense of purpose through the betterment of one’s community.
Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE) serves as the intermediary for this project. MCNCE is a coalition of colleges and universities dedicated to fostering civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across Montana. Led by CEOs from participating institutions, MCNCE works to improve community life and educate students on civic and social responsibility, preparing them to be thoughtful, compassionate, and engaged leaders.
