IMEG is hiring a Surveying Intern in Missoula, MT. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of civil systems while gaining hands‑on experience alongside experienced engineers and consultants.

In this role, you’ll support project documentation, cross‑functional coordination, field observations, and other project tasks while learning the civil engineering trade through real project work and mentorship. You will also contribute to work across land development and transportation markets, delivering resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist with design portions of projects related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards
  • Assist with researching resources for commercially available equipment
  • Assist with client relations, project design notebooks, and permanent record documentation
  • Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers
  • Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
  • Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check
  • Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement
What You’ll Bring Required Education
  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
Required Skills/Abilities
  • May be required to assist with field duties like surveying and materials testing
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Preferred
  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull
  • Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises

  • Transportation, bridge inspection, surveying, and water‑resources experience
  • Hydraulics, stormwater, and municipal engineering for county and city clients
  • Environmental permitting and utility coordination across the region
  • Recent work includes Grants Meadows O&M, Housing;
    Peak Water System O&M, Commercial;
    Watson Water System O&M, Corporate/Workplace
