Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our partner, a respected Level II Trauma Center located in Missoula, MT. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work various shifts, utilize advanced technology including PET, take on leadership responsibilities, and receive a generous $5,000 hiring bonus!

Position Overview:

As a Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will perform a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures, including PET scans, under the direction of a Radiologist. This advanced role requires independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation via radiopharmaceuticals for both scheduled and emergent procedures, always ensuring adherence to strict radiation safety standards. You will be a key member of the clinical team, participating actively in departmental activities, including call rotation, within both Nuclear Medicine and PET services.

The Senior Technologist serves as a clinical resource and may assist with training and quality initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures, including general nuclear medicine studies and PET/CT imaging, according to established protocols.
  • Prepare, assay, administer, and document radiopharmaceuticals accurately and safely, following all regulatory guidelines.
  • Operate nuclear medicine imaging equipment, including gamma cameras, PET/CT scanners, and uptake probes, proficiently.
  • Ensure patient safety, comfort, and understanding by providing clear explanations of procedures.
  • Implement and adhere to radiation safety principles (ALARA) for patients, staff, and the general public.
  • Process, analyze, and prepare imaging data for interpretation by the Radiologist.
  • Perform and document required quality control procedures on imaging equipment and radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, procedure logs, and billing information.
  • May assist in the training and orientation of new technologists, students, or other staff members.
  • May contribute to the development, review, or revision of departmental procedures and protocols.
  • May serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting equipment or handling complex procedures.
  • Actively participate in the departmental on-call schedule as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate's Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or documentation of equivalent education and experience.
  • Certification: (Must hold one of the following upon hire)
    • National registration as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - ARRT(N). OR
    • National certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon hire.
  • Experience: Demonstrable experience working with established nuclear medicine procedures and protocols is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training: Coursework or specific training related to the handling of FDG (Fluorodeoxyglucose) and the operation of PET scanners.
  • This position is based within the Nuclear Medicine and PET departments of a busy Level II Trauma Center.
  • Requires meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety protocols.
