The Missoula County Health Department is seeking a COORDINATOR FOR HEALTH EQUITY to join their team. This position provides leadership to identify and address the root causes of health inequities and supports internal and community health equity initiatives for Missoula Public Health. Build trust, inspire progress, and help shape public health systems, services, and programs that serve everyone. Design and lead initiatives that address health disparities and promote inclusive, lasting changes in the community.

Implements and evaluates policies, plans, and systems to address the root causes of health inequities. Promotes working relationships and engages with community residents and partners to share data and best practices for health equity. Identifies or develops and conducts training for MPH staff to build knowledge on health equity principles, social determinants of health, and cultural humility and safety. Evaluates MPH and other city/county policies, plans, and systems to promote and measure health equity and inclusion.
Advises staff, management teams, department leaders, elected officials on health equity and social determinants of health policy, plans, and systems within city and county government organizations. Leads and directs health equity initiatives and promotes and supports development of local and state-wide policies. Participates and represents the department in meetings with community work groups and teams to provide a health equity lens.
Develops and implements a system to provide clear and timely communication regarding health equity initiatives. Publishes reports on community-health equity initiatives. Performs literature reviews, gathers and compiles a variety of materials and information; develops and disseminates materials in various formats including print and electronic. May draft grant applications related to health equity requirements collaboratively with external partners and community members to address the social and structural determinants of health.
Participates in department-wide performance management, PHAB reaccreditation, workforce development, planning and implementation of community and department plans including the department’s strategic plan. Research and develop oral and written materials that make the case for health equity and identify key best practices and case studies. Participates in cross divisional work groups and committees including but not limited to the Performance Management and Quality Improvement Steering Committee and Climate and Health Committee.

Experience:
- Requires 2 years of post-secondary education. Coursework best suited to this position includes public health, community health, social work, public administration, or related field.
- Requires two years of experience in community engagement, community organizing in the public health or community health field, social work, health equity or health policy development, health education, workforce or organizational development; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
