The Associate Director of Housing Operations and Occupancy Management provides strategic leadership and oversight for all housing operations and occupancy management functions across UM Housing, including residence halls, university apartments, and other assigned properties.
This position is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive, unified occupancy management strategy that maximizes space utilization, revenue generation, and the quality of the residential experience. The role has primary leadership responsibility for summer conference and group housing operations and plays a critical role in advancing department‑wide operational efficiency, process integration, and coordinated logistical systems through the effective use of technology and data.
Responsibilities- Monitor occupancy trends and analyze data to inform projections, identify challenges, and recommend strategies for improvement
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to occupancy and housing operations
- Provide visionary leadership for the summer conference and group housing program, including planning, marketing, and execution
- Participate in an on‑call duty rotation for the UM Housing community 365 days of the year and respond to situations as needed
- Liaise with campus partners including Disability Equity, Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Athletics, and Student Accounts to resolve occupancy‑related issues
- Oversee housing appeals process, accommodation coordination, and all contract and rental agreement enforcement unless a process is specifically assigned to another area
- Hire, train, and supervise the Occupancy, Assignments and Operations team and main department and apartment office administrative staff
- Other duties as assigned
- A Master’s Degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, MIS or related field and five (5) years progressive experience in a Housing management position, or a combination of education and transferable experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage complex processes, and develop strategic plans
- Strong proficiency with housing management systems (e.g., Star Rez) or a related complex management system
- Demonstrated experience leveraging software such as Microsoft Office Suite at an advanced level to improve processes and operations
- Demonstrated experience with data reporting
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skill
- Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Business Administration, MIS, or related field
- Experience with summer conference housing operations and revenue generation strategies
- Live in‑residence hall or apartment staff or comparable experience
- Advanced knowledge of occupancy management best practices and housing technology systems
- Familiarity with relational databases, SQL reporting, and data‑driven decision‑making
- Demonstrated ability to utilize data to make operational projections.
- ACUHO‑I Certificate in Occupancy Management or equivalent professional certification
Position is full‑time, 1.0
