Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) practices in Mental Health (MH) to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The PMHNP provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Practice to the full extent of their education, training, and certification.
- Has prescriptive authority.
- Licensed independent practitioner, with advanced education, and national certification;
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients. - Use advanced clinical judgment to independently provide evidence-based treatment to Veterans with acute or chronic mental illness including use of psychotropic medications, psychotherapy, and other modalities.
- Provide patient and family education on medical/MH conditions, preventive measures, and prescribed treatments.
- Demonstrate leadership and engage in collaboration with other MH and specialty care professionals while involving Veterans and their families (as appropriate), in treatment plan development.
- Assess and adjust the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Counsel and treat patients with substance use disorders.
- Order and interpret labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
- Initiate referrals and consults to specialty services.

- Deliver evidence-based health care, demonstrating proficiency in the ability to manage a patient panel, population, or program.
- Utilize research and evidence-based practice to evaluate patient care delivery system within a patient panel, or program, presents findings and contributes to changes that enhance the quality and timeliness of Veteran/patient care.
- Work effectively as a leader within a team/unit/group and seek interdisciplinary collaboration as appropriate to enhance patient care.
- Acquire knowledge and skills to develop expertise in area of practice.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills and professional behavior, promoting cooperation and teamwork.
- Participate in interdisciplinary teams and processes that positively impact patient outcomes.
- Other duties as assigned.

Pay:
Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards

EDRP Authorized:
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
