This is a seasonal opportunity working up to 40 hours per week! As a Missoula County employee, you will be part of a team that is committed to positively impacting the community. The rate of pay for this position is $22.26 per hour.

The Missoula County Ecology/Extension Department is seeking an IPM TECHNICIAN to join their team. This position provides assistance with a variety of vegetation and pest management projects, with a heavy focus on backpack herbicide.

Monitors and inventories noxious weed sites, and mosquito breeding sites. Mixes, handles, and applies pesticides and herbicides. Maintains accurate treatment records, maps and safety equipment. Assists with implementing and monitoring re-vegetation projects. Assists in leading youth field trips including the Youth in Restoration Program. Assists with collecting, releasing, and monitoring biocontrol insects. Supports aquatic invasive species monitoring, treatments and surveys within both riparian and aquatic habitats.

Works collaboratively with project leads to implement field work. Assists with mapping invasive species using GPS units and ArcGIS applications. Handles heavy materials on maintenance and repair projects. Operates handheld power equipment. Provides education and information to members of the public regarding noxious weeds. Performs routine maintenance of all application equipment and vehicles. Ability to work irregular shifts, including late nights and possible weekends.

Qualifications
  • Requires twenty-four (24) college semester credits. Courses most applicable to the position will be in Ecology, Natural Resources, Biology, Botany or other plant sciences.
  • Requires one year of experience working in a natural resource or plant science field.
  • Special Requirement:
    Requires a valid Montana Driver's License. Must be able to obtain a pesticide applicators license. Must be able to drive a manual transmission vehicle.

The work demands are seasonal with considerable time spent in an outdoor setting. The outdoor work requires considerable physical exertion such as hiking over steep, rough, and uneven terrain, bending, stooping, and occasional heavy lifting (50 lbs to 75 lbs) in all types of weather.
