Hours:

2:00 pm – 10:00 pm, Monday–Friday (with potential additional hours or schedule changes). Department meetings are mandatory and may vary.

Responsibilities
  • Work at various stations (general production, hot bar, etc.) prepping and cooking a wide variety of menu items in large quantities, following Kitchen Manager specifications.
  • Prepare deli items following prescribed specifications.
  • Use established portion control rules.
  • Recommend new recipes to Deli Management.
  • Follow the production list and prepare high‑priority items.
  • Stock and maintain retail coolers and shelves to create bountiful and appealing displays following schematics and deli manager specifications.
  • Report customer suggestions, comments, and complaints to Deli Management.
  • Greet and assist customers in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner on the retail floor.
  • Pull old or low‑quality items, record, and dispose properly following established procedures.
  • Maintain a sanitary and orderly kitchen following guidelines from Deli Management and MCCHD rules.
  • Ensure freshness of deli items by rotating and date labeling.
  • Clean spills and take out trash as needed.
  • Follow safety, storage, and labeling procedures.
  • Monitor food temperatures and take corrective action to ensure food safety.
  • Advise the deli manager of equipment repair and replacement needs.
  • Follow safe working practices.
  • Perform dish and pot washing as needed.
  • Participate in periodic inventory counts.
  • Attend deli department and storewide meetings.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by Deli Management.
Qualifications
  • Education/Training: High school diploma or GED preferred; not required.
  • Experience: Cooking for a deli, restaurant, or catering business preferred.
  • Knowledge/

    Skills:

    Ability to operate professional kitchen equipment; practiced knife skills; food safety awareness.
  • Attendance: Regular, predictable attendance required.
  • Other: Adhere to established work and safety procedures; basic knowledge of and interest in natural foods; maintain accurate records; work closely with others; must be 18 years of age or older.
Physical & Mental Requirements
  • Vision: read product labels and distinguish color for quality control.
  • Hearing: converse with customers and co‑workers.
  • Gripping and Lifting: pick up boxes, cans, other products, tools and equipment; lift up 25 lb frequently and up to 50 lb on occasion.
  • Stooping, Squatting, Push/Pull: maneuver to pick up boxes from shelving and carts; carts/racks weighing up to 200 lb.
  • Kneeling, Climbing, Bending, Reaching: occasional kneeling, climbing, bending, reaching overhead, front, side and back.
  • Equipment Operation: safely operate professional kitchen equipment.
  • Carry Objects: carry up to 25 lb.
  • Walking: short distances to bring items from miscellaneous areas.
  • Standing: prolonged standing; walking on a cold environment; handle cold food products.
  • Mental: comprehend and retain directions; basic reading/writing; speak and communicate effectively; use basic problem‑solving techniques; organize tasks, set priorities, perform multiple tasks simultaneously; maintain composure under all circumstances.
