SUMMARY:

Performs diversified work of construction, repair, and operation of distribution and transmission facilities. Works on energized lines, structures, and equipment involved in the distribution of electricity. Employees in this capacity may serve as Crew Foreman, providing supervision and leadership to a crew while performing the regular duties of a Journeyman Lineman. Performs all work in a dependable, confidential, and professional manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs other duties as assigned by management, applying the same skill and enthusiasm as with regularly assigned responsibilities. All duties are to be performed as instructed in training and following written procedures or policies if applicable, unless unusual circumstances dictate otherwise.

  • Represents the Cooperative and communicates with property owners and the general public in a professional, friendly, courteous, and helpful manner, answering any questions or If concerns still exist, seek assistance from the Foreman.
  • Drives vehicles and operates other equipment safely. This includes but is not limited to the bucket truck, digger, trencher, backhoe, forklift, and skid loader to frame and set poles, lay wire, tie wire, connect and disconnect services, remove vegetation, and clear rights of way, as
  • Performs construction, conversion, relocation, maintenance, and service work on energized or de-energized lines per accepted safety rules, regulations, and
  • Practices barricading on public highways and public right-of-way to include the proper use of warning signs, devices, and flagging
  • In the absence of the Foreman and/or when assigned, supervises the activities of the crew assigned to him/her. Assigns duties to the crew in a manner that will ensure all work is performed safely, promptly, efficiently, economically, and When working with apprentices, provide training and instruction to ensure work performed is accurate, and is thorough, safe, and meets JATC standards.
  • Completes written reports related to job briefings, truck maintenance, daily time, and mileage reports, staking sheets, oil samples, switching orders, transformer changes, OCR and sectionalizer changes, pole and underground maintenance reports, , as required, to maintain proper files and documentation.
  • Maintains ongoing, effective communication with the direct supervisor regarding the specifics of each assignment, problems that may occur, and questions that may arise. Immediately report any known hazardous conditions affecting the crew or public that exist on lines, substations, Makes suggestions on revisions, as needed.
  • Submits reports of accountability to the direct supervisor for jobs performed and for all materials issued to him/her or the crew; cares for and returns all unused and retired materials to the warehouse.
  • Maintains and safely uses all trucks, equipment, and tools assigned to him/her to ensure all are always in proper working order. Performs daily inspection on trucks and equipment, completing the inspection forms
  • Responds to duty calls as soon as possible, day or night, seven days a week, to correct the problem and/or restore
  • While traveling through the MEC system performing regular duties, the employee is always watching for system deficiencies that require attention. Documents the deficiencies and submits them daily to his/her
  • Gains and maintains a thorough knowledge of applicable NESC codes and RUS specifications, and drawings for line construction of transmission, distribution, and voltages presently in use or proposed to be used on the system, and conveys this information to the crew in the absence of the Foreman.
  • Gains and maintains a thorough knowledge of the transmission and distribution system in the service area to which he/she may be assigned, such as the location and workings of substations, regulators, breakers, and fuses, and conveys this information to the crew in the absence of the Foreman.
  • Performs all necessary line and substation
