UM Housing invites applications for a Journeyman Painter to perform skilled painting of interior and exterior surfaces using a variety of coatings and finishing techniques.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare, repair, and finish surfaces, including furniture refinishing, wall vinyl and tile repair, tape and texture, and window glazing
- Plan, coordinate, and complete painting and maintenance projects in accordance with quality and safety standards
- Supervise seasonal crews by providing training, assigning work, scheduling projects, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures
- Coordinate materials, supplies, and equipment to support daily operations and project completion
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to established standards
- Perform other painting and maintenance duties as assigned in support of departmental operations
- Knowledge of painting methods, materials, tools, equipment, and surface preparation techniques
- Skill in applying a variety of paints, coatings, and finishes using standard painting methods and equipment
- Ability to safely operate and maintain painting tools, equipment, and machinery
- Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions while adhering to established safety practices and procedures
- Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to weather and conditions associated with painting and maintenance work
- Lifting:
Ground to 36 inches, up to 60 pounds. Ground to overhead, up to 5 pounds, both hands. - Carrying:
One handed, carry up to 60 pounds for 50 feet, and upstairs. - Carrying:
Two handed, front carry, carry up to 60 pounds for 100 feet. - Pushing and pulling forces required (when moving equipment and office furniture): 60 pounds sustained.
- Static trunk forward bending and twisting from a standing, crouching or kneeling position while painting, laying floor tile, and repairing walls and floor...
- Reaching with both arms in all directions, including overhead, frequently.
- Perform one handed overhead work, such as plastering, with 5 pounds tool.
- Balancing when climbing and working on a ladder or scaffold.
- Standing and walking on various distances throughout the day, on even and uneven surfaces.
- Manual steadiness, dexterity, speed, and coordination:
- Arm-Hand Steadiness — The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
- Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly move your hand, and your hand together with your arm, to grasp and manipulate painting tools.
Physical Screen will be administered prior to a final offer of employment

Compensation
Title:
Journeyman Painter
Bargaining Unit: Maintenance Painters Union
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, 12 months/year
Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
Benefits Include: Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
