Job Overview

Position Title: Social Services Coordinator

Department: Missoula Corps

Status: Full Time / Regular / Non-Exempt

Salary: $25.00 per hour

Supervisor: Corps Officers

Responsibilities

Administer a variety of Social Services programs to meet the physical, social, and spiritual needs of clients through direct client contact and the supervision of staff and volunteers.

  • Handle all inquiries for assistance through The Salvation Army of Missoula Social Services.
  • Oversee disbursement of financial and material assistance.
  • Provide basic problem‑solving casework and client referrals.
  • Create paperwork and maintain records of cases/clients.
  • Work with other Social Service agencies to develop inter‑agency relationships within guidelines of The Salvation Army.
  • Order, disburse, and maintain food inventories from agencies, businesses, and gifts in kind.
  • Provide support to the hygiene center, food program, and employment program activity and volunteers/participants.
Administrative Responsibilities (80%)
  • Answer or respond to all telephone calls & emails.
  • Interview, screen and make appointments for those seeking assistance.
  • Prepare client files and records; keep accurate computer files and statistical data.
  • Track funding received and disbursed; monitor financial status of all Social Service Programs.
  • Complete monthly reports to DHQ and Accounting.
  • Order and maintain food supplies; plan and implement food distribution.
  • Drive company minivan for work‑related duties as needed.
  • Assist with community and seasonal programmes, projects, and office tasks when requested by Corps Officers.
  • Network with Corps staff and other agencies outside The Salvation Army.
  • Develop funding sources and write grants to support and expand various programs.
  • Record, disburse, and report in‑kind donations.
  • Support clients in job‑skills programs and assigned areas (hygiene centre, food service).
  • Assist qualified client families (POH criteria) with case‑management services.
  • Administer intake and client assessments such as URICA, Client Sufficiency Matrix and Herth Hope Index.
  • Attend divisional trainings as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Case Management Responsibilities (20%)
  • Provide basic intake to determine need and eligibility for assistance.
  • Distribute direct material or financial assistance for food, clothing, shelter, household items, transportation, information, referrals and other needs.
  • Manage long‑term client needs such as housing assistance, utility assistance, and food bank certification.
  • Provide referral services for needs The Salvation Army cannot meet directly.
Qualifications
  • College degree, AA or higher; high school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a non‑profit setting or a social service‑related role.
  • Experience working with Missoula County or similar Social Service agencies; familiar with the Missoula Coordinated Entry System.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work with vulnerable and marginalized populations.
  • Understanding and willingness to abide by The Salvation Army's mission and practices.
  • Ability to understand and comply with The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to represent The Salvation Army throughout the community; maintain client confidentiality.
  • Must have a valid Montana State Driver's license and ability to pass TSA MVR check and in‑house driving test.
  • Must complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines, including ability to pass a TSA background check.
  • Basic computer knowledge:
    Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and navigation of database applications and new software.
  • Detail‑oriented, self‑starter, and team player.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
