onX is seeking an experienced engineering leader to lead the Hunt Vertical, owning foundational and business‑critical systems across the onX product ecosystem. The role provides leadership across Core Hunt experiences, Hunt Research Tools (HRT), and Land Intelligence, spanning iOS, Android, Web, and Backend teams while partnering closely with Product and Design leadership to shape long‑term technical and product evolution.

• Provide technical and people leadership across Core Hunt, HRT, and Land Intelligence, ensuring reliability, scalability, and long‑term maintainability.
• Balance the needs of multiple customer personas, from casual hunters to power users and professionals.
• Act as a steward of high‑trust, business‑critical systems where data accuracy, performance, and availability impact customer confidence.
• Operate as a true peer to Product leadership, jointly owning domain strategy, investment sequencing, and roadmap outcomes.
• Translate customer insights, product strategy, and business priorities into clear engineering direction.
• Challenge and influence product direction when needed to protect long‑term velocity, system integrity, and customer trust.
• Make great engineers better through coaching, feedback, career development, and mentoring.
• Build and scale balanced, multi‑disciplinary teams across iOS, Android, Web, and Backend.
• Hire exceptional engineers and contribute to broader engineering and leadership hiring efforts, including interviewing manager‑level candidates.
• Guide architectural direction and long‑term technical strategy for Hunt’s core systems.
• Lead teams through ambiguous problem spaces, bringing clarity without slowing momentum.
• Ensure strong engineering fundamentals: quality, observability, operational excellence, and sustainable delivery.
• Improve engineering velocity and effectiveness through thoughtful processes, metrics, and tooling, including responsible use of AI‑assisted development tools.
• Manage dependencies and collaboration across multiple teams and domains, communicating clearly and proactively with engineering, product, design, and executive stakeholders.
• Help teams understand the “why” behind work and how it connects to onX’s broader mission and business goals.

• At least five (5) years of experience directly managing software engineers.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑platform teams (iOS, Android, Web, Backend) building customer‑facing products at scale.
• A proven track record of delivering solutions that enable product and engineering teams.
• Improved engineering velocity, quality, and observability across teams, and comfort introducing or maturing workflows, processes, and metrics.
• Experience thoughtfully adopting AI‑assisted development tools to improve team productivity, code quality, and delivery velocity.
• Ability to connect engineering work to business goals, balancing customer value, quality, and impact.
• Strong communication skills with executives and non‑technical leaders.
• A strong computer science foundation.
• Desire to work with other happy, talented engineers and to be fun to work with.
• Capability to thrive in ambiguous environments and across different stages of a product lifecycle.

• Familiarity with mapping or navigation technologies.
• Experience designing or leading complex client or server‑side architectures for high‑volume consumer‑facing products, including distributed systems, APIs, or platform components that support large‑scale B2C applications.
