onX is seeking a talented Software Engineering Manager III to lead a cross-functional team of engineers and shape the consumer experiences that power our off-pavement mobile apps. This role offers the opportunity to join a dynamic growth company, impact the business, and work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure our mobile properties leverage our extensive off-pavement data. This position reports to the Director of our Engineering team.

Go, Elixir, Rust, Python, Swift, Kotlin, JavaScript, Java, Git / Git Hub, Google Cloud Build, Travis CI, Kubernetes, Docker, MySQL, PostGIS, Linux, Google Cloud Platform, and many open source mapping tools.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Make great engineers better. Support teammates with individual goal-setting, professional development, and mentoring.
- Make great software. Lead the team to deliver maintainable, high-quality, customer-focused products. Oversee design, development, testing, deployment, and operations.
- Build great teams. Hire talented engineers and managers across iOS, Android, web, and backend. Interview and evaluate manager candidates as part of broader hiring.
- Collaborate. Manage dependencies between teams and facilitate collaboration to deliver a cohesive customer experience with Product, Product Design, and stakeholders.
- Leadership. Drive projects, provide technical thought partnership, shape architectural direction, and guide innovation for rapid experimentation when needed.
- Translate. Convert business strategy and customer insights into engineering direction and connect work to onX’s goals.
- Communicate. Over-communicate to align teams, set ambitious yet attainable goals, and coordinate with other teams to move the company forward.
- At least five (5) years of experience directly managing software engineers.
- Proven ability to lead multi-platform teams (iOS, Android, Web, Backend) delivering customer-facing products at scale.
- Track record of delivering solutions that enable product and engineering teams.
- Experience leading teams through ambiguous, fast-changing product stages and bringing structure and clarity without slowing pace.
- Improved engineering velocity, quality, and observability; comfortable with workflows, processes, and metrics.
- Ability to connect engineering work to business goals and balance customer value, quality, and impact.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted tools to improve productivity, code quality, and velocity; ability to help teams adopt them effectively.
- Strong communication with executives and non-technical leaders.
- Solid computer science foundation.
- A collaborative, friendly, and engaging approach to working with other engineers.
- Ability to work in ambiguous environments and across different product life cycles.
Not required, but beneficial candidates may have:
- Familiarity with mapping or navigation technologies.
- Experience designing or leading complex client or server-side architectures for high-volume consumer-facing products, and experience with distributed systems, APIs, or platform components supporting large-scale B2C…
