Summer Day Camp Counselor

This is a part time, seasonal position with the City’s Parks & Recreation Department. An individual in this position will teach and lead campers, usually children and teenagers, in recreational activities such as swimming and group games, as well as supervise daily life at the camp.

• Ensure the safety, well-being and personal growth of campers;
• Plan, coordinate and facilitate a wide variety of activities for campers;
• Supervise and interact with children while maintaining a safe and fun environment;
• Explain activities to a group of 30 or more children;
• Guide group activities with the children;
• Clean the facility and play areas after each activity;
• Be a positive role model for campers and their family;
• Lead children on planned field trips and maintain professionalism.

High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) and six (6) months of related professional experience required; must be able to swim efficiently; two years of college education desired.

Candidates with a current lifeguard certification may qualify for increased pay. The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
