Summer Day Camp Counselor

This is a part time, seasonal position with the City’s Parks & Recreation Department. An individual in this position will teach and lead campers, usually children and teenagers, in recreational activities such as swimming and group games, as well as supervise daily life at the camp.

• Ensures the safety, well-being and personal growth of campers
• Plans, coordinates and facilitates a wide variety of activities for campers
• Supervises and interacts with children while maintaining a safe and fun environment
• Explains activities to a group of 30 or more children
• Guides group activities with the children
• Cleans the facility and play areas after each activity
• Positive role model for campers and their family
• Leads children on planned field trips and maintains professionalism

• High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) and
• Six (6) months of related professional experience
• Must be able to swim efficiently
• Two years of college education
  preferred.

*** Applicants who hold a valid lifeguard certification may be eligible for higher compensation.

The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
