Cooper Douglas is partnering with a private equity backed national service organization known for managing large complex high value projects in hiring their next Controller. The Controller will lead day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, job cost accounting, and internal controls. This role oversees the close process, WIP reporting, payroll, cash management, and ERP integrity while building scalable processes to support continued growth.
You will manage and develop the accounting team, act as a technical resource on GAAP matters, and serve as a key partner to operations and executive leadership.
- Lead all core accounting functions including AP, AR, general ledger, payroll, and cost accounting
- Own the monthly close process and preparation of accurate, GAAP-compliant financial statements
- Prepare and manage Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and project margin reporting
- Oversee bi-weekly payroll processing and payroll controls
- Manage cash flow forecasting and daily treasury activity
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet support schedules
- Review job cost reports and partner with project managers on cost performance and forecasting
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation
- Support sales and use tax compliance and filings
- Oversee accounts receivable, customer billings, and credit policies
- Administer corporate credit card programs and expense reconciliation
- Ensure data integrity and system integration between ERP and project management platforms (Procore)
- Own general ledger structure and chart of accounts governance
- Design, implement, and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and close procedures
- Act as primary liaison to external auditors, tax advisors, and consultants
- Partner closely with operations leaders and senior management on financial performance and risk
- Hire, mentor, and develop the accounting team
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA required (Big 4 or top-tier regional public accounting background required)
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience including full close ownership
- Construction or project-based accounting experience required
- Deep knowledge of GAAP and revenue recognition in long-term contract environments
- Experience with Dynamics 365 and Procore strongly preferred
- Advanced Excel skills
