Overview
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our client’s fast-paced construction accounting team. This is a highly visible, hands-on role working directly with the CFO to ensure the integrity of the general ledger and accuracy of project-based financial reporting. The Senior Accountant will manage the full accounting cycle, support month-end close, and strengthen internal controls in a project-driven environment.

- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare accurate financial statements and reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Manage and audit job cost data (labor, materials, equipment) to support revenue recognition
- Maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and identify project “profit fade” early
- Oversee sales and use tax filings (CDTFA) and ensure compliance deadlines are met
- Support payroll and compliance processes, including union benefit remittances and DIR/LCPtracker reporting
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external CPA reviews and union trust fund audits
- Maintain and improve internal accounting controls, policies, and procedures
- Provide guidance to AP, AR, and receiving staff to ensure accurate project accounting and data integrity
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3 years of accounting experience within construction or contracting environments
- Experience with construction ERP platforms (e.g., Sage, Foundation, Vista, Procore Financials)
- Proficient in Syspro
- Strong knowledge of Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting and WIP reporting
- Familiarity with California prevailing wage laws
- Exposure to union (IBEW) fringe benefit and compliance reporting
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
- Hands-on, ownership-oriented mindset
Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000*
The above represents the lowest to highest expected salary range for this job opening upon hire.
