Job OverviewThe California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) is seeking an Accountable Trainee to provide professional accounting duties to support the Accounts Payable Unit. The role involves processing the Department’s administrative and investment fund expenses and assisting with vendor and staff inquiries related to payables.
Location & Working ConditionsOffice:
This position requires full-time attendance in the office, working onsite five days per week.
Salary range: $4,442.00 – $5,296.00 per month (new to state candidates hired into the minimum salary of the classification). This is before the 3 percent reduction in pay that applies for PLP 2025.
Responsibilities- Process various administrative and investment fund expenses.
- Review contracts and purchase orders to validate appropriate general ledger coding and available funding.
- Assist vendors and CalPERS staff with questions regarding payments and other inquiries.
- Research and analyze vendor payment information and related accounting data as needed.
- Resolve less complex issues and problems in processing invoices and maintaining appropriate accounting records.
- Experience processing accounts payable transactions, including review of purchase orders, contracts, and invoices.
- Experience performing general ledger account reconciliations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
- Experience performing accounts payable related duties.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Effective problem solver with excellent analytical skills.
- Self‑motivated with drive and ambition.
