Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Staff AccountantJob Duties
- Prepare and enter general ledger journal entries into accounting software.
- Record vendor transactions paid through electronic funds transfers.
- Complete monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts and income statement accounts as assigned.
- Provide support with year‑end close by preparing adjusting journal entries, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and analysis as needed.
- Assist with annual audit by preparing financial documentation as assigned.
- Assist with annual operating budgeting by preparing analysis of general ledger accounts.
- Prepare analysis of assigned expense accounts as assigned by the Controller.
- Prepare monthly and ad‑hoc financial reports.
- Support grants management by ensuring proper grant tracking and accounting.
- Perform vendor background checks.
- Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents and maintain financial security by following internal controls.
- Support the Controller/CFO with special projects and workflow process improvements.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or ExperienceAssociate’s Degree in Accounting/Business required and at least four years of professional experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook required. Experience with accounting in a healthcare organization preferred.
Language SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports; respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies; effectively present information to top management; high level of communication proficiency.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to work with accounting concepts such as income and expense statements, budgets, and controls on cash, including deposits to the bank.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

- Outgoing personality with strong phone etiquette skills and outstanding customer service skills.
- Confidentiality of patient information mandatory.

Moderate physical effort, occasionally lifting or moving over 35 pounds of weight.
Travel RequirementTravel to all COMC locations may be required. Employee must have a valid Missouri driver’s license and have access to a motor vehicle.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment is usually moderate in noise level. Hours are flexible as approved by the Controller, with increased hours for weekends and evenings during special events. Knowledge of, and compliance with, HIPAA and 340B regulations required. Confidentiality of patient information is mandatory.
