Project Accountant

Location: Chesterfield

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Project Accountant to join a collaborative team in Chesterfield, Missouri. This Long-term Contract position blends project accounting, invoice oversight, and financial compliance work while supporting both internal teams and external partners. The role is well suited for someone who can evaluate documentation carefully, resolve payment-related issues, and help maintain accurate financial operations across multiple projects.

Responsibilities:

- Examine invoices and related records to confirm alignment with contract terms, approved budgets, internal policies, and required backup documentation.

- Investigate billing inconsistencies by comparing charges against project milestones, funding guidelines, and contractual expectations.

- Work closely with cross-functional teams and external contacts to address invoice concerns and keep approvals moving on schedule.

- Provide guidance to project participants and partners on billing standards, documentation needs, and compliance-related procedures.

- Assist with educating stakeholders on invoicing workflows, financial controls, and recordkeeping expectations.

- Compile supporting materials for audits and respond to requests for financial and project documentation.

- Contribute to compliance assessments, project coordination efforts, and additional assignments that support departmental goals.

- Collaborate with leadership to identify ways to strengthen financial accuracy, streamline processes, and improve operational effectiveness. Requirements - Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Project Management, Communications, or a related discipline.

- At least 3 years of experience in project accounting, accounts payable, invoice administration, contract compliance, or a similar financial support function.

- Working knowledge of invoice validation, financial records review, and compliance-focused documentation practices.

- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and follow issues through resolution.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build productive working relationships.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including strong Excel skills.

- Experience with tools such as Smartsheet, Stampli, invoice automation platforms, or project management systems is preferred.
