POSITION

DESCRIPTION:

The Staff Accountant II will be primarily responsible for monitoring the financial status of all TAY and Housing Programs and funding including but not limited to preparing monthly invoices and performing the related bookkeeping functions, creating a budget for all newly proposed grants, performing forecasting for existing grants and closely monitoring all aspects of the budget. Additionally, the individual within this role will assist with preparing monthly grant financial reports for meetings with program managers and assist with other accounting tasks assigned based on department needs.

Staff Accountant II reports to the Finance Manager and supports the accounting department in providing financial reports to managers, board, and other staff members.

This position is hybrid (3 days in office/ 2 days remote).

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior experience as Fiscal Compliance Support or the equivalent level of work experience for a period of at least 2 years
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or 4 years of experience of accounting in a non-profit organization
  • Experience and knowledge of GAAP, general ledger, and financial statements
  • Must be able to perform complex accounting duties to include maintenance and analysis of accounting records
  • Knowledge of fund accounting with related professional experience in this area
  • Knowledge and experience in accounts receivable and/or accounts payable functions
  • Non-profit and/or government contract experience
  • Knowledge of MIP Fund Accounting system preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ability to analyze current and new grant agreements and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain reconciliation of accounting records with reports to grantors
  • Determine calendar of due dates for invoices, budget amendments, budget modifications and other contractual conditions
  • Prepare and create monthly analysis of grant (prior and/or current) revenues for cost reimbursement contracts.
  • Maintain and update grants schedule for governmental and non/governmental grants monthly for distribution to managers and directors.
  • Assist with grant audits performed by funding agencies.
  • Prepare monthly invoices for all TAY, Housing, and Unaccompanied Children Transitional Foster Care (UC-TFC) programs and follow up with payments.
  • Record related A/R entries into the accounting system.
  • Closely monitor all grants financial status against the budget
  • Prepare monthly forecasting for all grants.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for meetings with program managers, directors, leadership, andthe Board of Directors, as requested.
  • Create budgets for newly proposed grants.
  • Create budget modifications for existing grants if needed.
  • Keep track of all internal and external due dates and create and submit reports according to the requirements and prior to the stated due dates.
