Job DetailsThe ideal candidate is a CPA with strong construction accounting experience and prior exposure to a private equity-backed environment. This person will partner closely with executive leadership and the investment team to provide accurate financial reporting, improve processes, strengthen controls, and support continued growth.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, cash management, and financial reporting.
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process and ensure accurate and timely financial statements.
- Oversee construction job costing, project accounting, cost-to-complete analysis, and job-level profitability.
- Manage and review WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, earned revenue, and gross margin calculations.
- Partner with project management and operations teams to analyze project performance, change orders, labor costs, committed costs, and cost-to-complete estimates.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and key performance indicators.
- Develop and maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, systems, and operational efficiency.
- Support annual audits, tax compliance, banking relationships, and other external financial requirements.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to executive leadership and private equity ownership, including reporting packages and performance updates.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and strategic planning.
- Monitor working capital, cash flow, backlog, and other construction-specific financial metrics.
- Partner with leadership on acquisitions, integration initiatives, and other growth-related projects as needed.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while establishing a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Active CPA license required.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in construction accounting.
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project-based financial reporting.
- Previous experience working for a private equity-backed company or closely partnering with private equity ownership strongly preferred.
- Experience overseeing the full accounting cycle and leading a month-end close.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience with construction ERP/accounting systems preferred.
- Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and business-partnering abilities.
- Highly analytical, process-minded, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
