Controller, Accounting, Financial Compliance

LHH is partnering with a growing, private equity-backed organization in Orange County seeking a hands-on Controller to serve as the senior finance leader for the business. This organization is entering an exciting phase of growth and is looking for a finance leader who wants the opportunity to build, improve, and scale the accounting and finance function while partnering directly with executive leadership on strategic business initiatives.

This is more than a traditional Controller role. The right individual will have the opportunity to create structure, establish best practices, improve reporting and processes, and serve as a key business partner as the company continues to grow and evolve.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting operations and financial reporting activities
• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
• Develop and enhance financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis
• Partner with executive leadership to support operational and strategic decision-making
• Improve accounting processes, controls, and financial infrastructure
• Oversee cash management, treasury activities, and key financial operations
• Serve as the primary liaison for audits, lenders, and external advisors
• Evaluate and implement scalable systems and process improvements
• Build, mentor, and develop the accounting function as the organization grows
• Support business growth initiatives, strategic investments, and future expansion opportunities as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• 6+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience with increasing levels of responsibility
• Experience leading or owning an accounting function within a small to mid-sized organization
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting operations
• Proven ability to improve processes, create structure, and drive operational efficiencies
• Strong business acumen and ability to partner with executive leadership
• Comfortable operating in a hands-on environment where priorities evolve quickly
• Executive presence and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across the organization
• Experience working within a growing company environment preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA designation is a plus, but not required
• Public accounting experience is a plus
• Experience with in a private equity-backed, investor-backed, or high-growth organization is a plus
• Exposure to strategic finance, acquisitions, integrations, or financial modeling is beneficial but not required
