Overview

The Student Worker Program is designed to provide on-the-job training and experience while participants obtain their degree. This is a temporary, part-time position, compensated on an hourly as-needed basis for up to 30 hours per week during instructional period.
The Student Work, R8242P-R is open to the public. Applications are accepted during the posting period which may end when needs are met and without prior notice.
What will I do as a Student Worker?- Prepare, from plain and corrected copy and rough draft, or from verbal instructions, materials such as reports, letters, vouchers, receipts, lists, orders, schedules, notices, file cards, statistical data, and certified copies of documents.
- Greet and assist the public in a small office; answer routine questions in person or by phone.
- Perform all types of filing (alphabetical, numerical, chronological and code) and pull and charge out file material.
- Post data, keep records, and prepare reports in accordance with predetermined forms and procedures.
- Handle bills, orders, notes, receipts, permits, licenses, etc.
- Operate various office machines or equipment requiring little specialized training.
- Deliver correspondence, records, packages, etc. on regular messenger rounds and upon request.
- Open, sort, time stamp, and route incoming mail; seal and register outgoing mail.
- Search records and files for data; perform proofreading of documents.
- Sort and arrange documents, correspondence, or other material; operate a small telephone console as needed.
- Takes notes as needed.
- Current enrollment in an accredited college, community college, or business college with academic standing equivalent to at least a freshman in college OR current enrollment as a junior or senior in high school.

At least 16 years of age.
Applicants under 18 years old must present a work permit before starting work.
LicenseA valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Physical ExpectationsLight physical activity typical of administrative and clerical positions, including occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
Required Documentation during HiringSuccessful candidates must provide the following three documents during the hiring process:
- Official or unofficial transcripts or a verification letter from the current school reflecting academic standing.
- Current Class Schedule or a letter from the school showing enrollment status; a student a photograph showing current enrollment; or a copy of transcripts.
Photocopy of Birth Certificate, California Driver License.
If hired, you must continue to be enrolled and attend school to maintain status in the position.
Assessment and Application Process- Applicants meeting minimum requirements will be invited to complete multiple-choice and/or simulation assessments weighted 100% on Learning Potential, Responsibility, Customer Focus, and Working with Information.
- Transfer of test components may occur for applicants who have taken identical components recently for other exams.
- Applicants must achieve a passing score to be placed on the eligible register.
- Multiple-choice and/or simulation assessments are not reviewable by candidates.
