Position Title:
Deputy Juvenile Officer - Child Protection Services
Provide assistance to the Office Administrator by performing record keeping duties and contributing to the Juvenile Office intake procedures. Perform a wide range of Court related tasks and general clerical support of the Juvenile Office operation. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Administrative Supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, observations and the results obtained from work efforts.
Responsibilities- Prepare petitions to terminate parental rights, proposed orders of termination, neglect petitions, delinquency petitions, motions to modify previous orders of disposition and certifications.
- Prepare interrogatory answers and other discovered matters, witness subpoenas, and ensure the subpoenas are served in a timely manner and witnesses are notified to appear at Court if the cause is continued.
- Prepare and insure the service of petitions for writ of Habeas Corpus and accompanying order.
- Enter Juvenile Office cases, along with their dispositions, into the appropriate computer system for filing and tracking purposes.
- Conduct background/records checks via the REJIS System.
- Record and update hearing dates for Legal Services Division and prepare Court docket for Legal Services Division.
- Perform record keeping duties related to all monies received and disbursed through the Juvenile Office, including the Detention Center, and prepare and forward First and Second Informal Adjustment Fee Letters to parents/guardians.
- Maintain records and financial reports for grant‑funded projects, and prepare vouchers for reimbursement from the State of Missouri for childcare days at detention facility, residential facilities, and in‑home detention program.
- Schedule appointments in support of the Juvenile Office intake procedures and prepare requests for discharge, social summaries, court updates, various intake‑related correspondence and other documents when requested by deputy juvenile officers.
- Assist the File Clerk/Secretary by initiating case files for new cases, retrieving files when reports/referrals are received, and filing active and closed files as needed.
- Assist Deputy Juvenile Officers by preparing schedules for probation checks and supporting the performance of probation checks.
- Provide the Division of Family Services and Juvenile Office satellite offices with current court dates, accessing and inputting information via REJIS and Elite.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of manual and automated office equipment and computer applications; ability to operate and troubleshoot commonly used office equipment.
- Excellent composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation; skill in typing accurately, alphanumeric sequencing, data processing and file maintenance.
- Ability to create and maintain files and records.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work‑related activities efficiently.
- Ability to effectively comply with written instructions and procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of professional secretarial or related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

WorkEnvironment
The work is performed indoors in an office environment with low to moderate noise level. This position involves interaction with other employees and the general public. Many situations may require early morning and late evening hours.
SalaryNormal Entry Salary $18.24 per hour
