Reprographics Lead Technician

There is currently one (1) immediate full-time vacancy in this position, eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week, twelve (12) months per year. The tentative work schedule is 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Under general supervision of the Director of Communications or designee, performs advanced and complex technical duties in the production and reproduction of printed and digital materials utilizing high-speed digital printing, graphic design, page-layout, image-editing, and bindery equipment and software; serves as the technical working lead for the District’s reprographics operation; coordinates the sequence, status, and day-to-day flow of assigned print-production work and communicates management-established priorities and schedules;

provides task-specific technical instruction, demonstrations, and on-the-job training to Reprographics Technicians and other assigned staff without supervisory authority; performs complex prepress, graphic-design, digital-file preparation, print-production, quality-control, troubleshooting, estimating, records, inventory-monitoring, and equipment-maintenance-coordination duties; consults with District customers regarding job specifications, design, materials, production methods, and timelines; and performs related duties as assigned.

The Reprographics Lead Technician is an advanced journey-level technical classification that performs the most complex and specialized reprographics, graphic-design, prepress, digital-file preparation, print-production, troubleshooting, quality-control, customer-consultation, and job-planning assignments. Incumbents serve as a working lead by coordinating the sequence, status, and day-to-day flow of assigned production work; communicating priorities and schedules established by management; providing task-specific technical instruction and on-the-job training;

monitoring production status and technical quality; and serving as a principal technical resource for reprographics equipment, materials, and processes.

The Reprographics Lead Technician is distinguished from the Reprographics Technician in that the Lead Technician performs advanced and complex technical work requiring greater independence, broader knowledge of print-production systems and equipment capabilities, and responsibility for complex prepress and file-readiness review, job planning, technical troubleshooting, quality assurance, customer consultation, technical estimates, maintenance coordination, inventory monitoring, and working-lead functions. The Reprographics Technician performs skilled journey-level print-production and reproduction duties and is primarily responsible for completing assigned work;

the Lead Technician provides technical coordination and guidance for the completion of work by others in addition to performing the most difficult assignments.

The Reprographics Lead Technician is not a supervisory classification. Incumbents do not have authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign for purposes of discipline, reward, evaluate, discipline, approve leave, adjust grievances, or effectively recommend personnel action.
