Automotive Painter & Collision Service Writer

The Automotive Painter & Collision Service Writer is responsible for supporting the collision repair process from initial vehicle assessment through completion while also performing high-quality automotive refinishing work. This position combines technical automotive painting expertise with customer service, estimating, documentation, and repair coordination responsibilities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, customer-focused, and able to effectively balance hands-on production responsibilities with the administrative needs of the collision repair process.

• Prepare vehicles and vehicle components for painting, including sanding, masking, cleaning, priming, and surface preparation.
• Mix and match paint according to manufacturer specifications and established color-matching procedures.
• Apply primers, base coats, clear coats, and other refinishing materials using appropriate equipment and techniques.
• Blend and refinish repaired areas to achieve a consistent, high-quality appearance.
• Inspect completed paint work for color match, finish quality, coverage, and defects.
• Perform polishing, buffing, touch-ups, and other finishing work as needed.
• Identify surface imperfections and correct issues before and after refinishing.
• Properly maintain paint guns, spray equipment, tools, and work areas.
• Follow manufacturer guidelines and company quality standards throughout the refinishing process.
• Follow all applicable safety procedures when handling paints, solvents, chemicals, and other materials.
• Properly use required personal protective equipment.

• Inspect vehicles and gather information necessary to identify visible collision damage and repair needs.
• Prepare accurate repair estimates using applicable estimating systems and established procedures.
• Document vehicle condition, damage, recommended repairs, and related information.
• Communicate with customers regarding the repair process, estimated timelines, and status of their vehicles.
• Coordinate repair requirements with technicians, painters, parts personnel, vendors, and management.
• Monitor repair progress and help ensure vehicles move efficiently through the repair process.
• Identify additional or supplemental damage discovered during repairs and update documentation as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate records related to estimates, repair orders, customer communications, and completed work.
• Communicate changes in repair scope or anticipated completion dates to appropriate parties.
• Assist with ordering or coordinating parts and materials when needed.
• Perform final reviews to help ensure repairs meet established quality standards before vehicle delivery.

• Provide professional, courteous, and timely communication to customers throughout the repair process.
• Explain recommended repairs and services in a clear and understandable manner.
• Respond to customer questions and concerns professionally.
• Set realistic expectations regarding repair timelines and communicate changes promptly.
• Help create a positive customer experience from initial assessment through vehicle delivery.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Follow company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
• Properly handle, store, and dispose of automotive paints, solvents, chemicals, and hazardous materials.
• Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or workplace incidents promptly.
• Protect customer vehicles and property while in the Company's possession.
• Follow established company procedures and quality standards.

• Previous automotive painting, refinishing, collision repair, or related experience.
• Knowledge of automotive paint preparation, application, blending, and finishing techniques.
• Understanding of collision repair processes and vehicle damage assessment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, vendors, and other business partners.
• Ability to prioritize multiple vehicles, repairs, and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn estimating, repair management, and other automotive software.
• Valid driver's license
