Job Description and DutiesUnder the direction of the Supervising Transportation Engineer, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the Design Administration Unit. The incumbent acts as the focal point of contact and is responsible for the successful operation and delivery of the Design Personnel Services and Administrative Services. Leads and supports a customer‑focused and employee‑engaged work environment by fostering collaboration, accountability, and responsiveness. Promotes effective communication, recognizes staff contributions, and supports engagement initiatives that enhance morale, productivity, and service quality within the division.
Occasional travel may be required for training or meetings, both locally and statewide.
- Eligibility: SUPERVISOR I classification. Salary $7,172.00 – $8,910.00. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating state owned or leased vehicles.
Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) – Typed, no more than two pages in length, 12‑point Arial font. Must address the following questions in numbered order:
- Describe your knowledge, experience, and abilities on the duties of this position and what makes you the most qualified candidate for this position.
- Provide specific examples of your previous work experience that demonstrate your ability to manage changing priorities, acknowledge risks, and make sound decisions.
- Provide specific examples of your previous work experience that demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively and work with internal and external management and staff at various levels.
- Customer service is a core expectation. Describe how you have led teams to deliver consistent, high‑quality customer service. Include examples.
Relevant education, transcripts, and evaluation documents must be submitted if based on education. Foreign transcripts require equivalency report.
Desirable Qualifications- Experience providing high‑quality customer service in a supervisory or management role.
- Experience leading employee engagement and recognition activities.
- Experience supervising administrative and personnel support functions.
- Knowledge of departmental policies, rules, and procedures, and ability to apply them consistently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Position located at 464 W. 4th St., San Bernardino, CA 92401. Work in a climate‑controlled office under artificial lighting. Possible field investigations, exposure to traffic, dust, noise, uneven surfaces, extreme heat or cold.
Business travel may be required. Reimbursement and travel policy as per CalHR regulations. Telework may be eligible at the discretion of the Department. Employees are expected to commute to the headquarters as needed.
