Summary

Founded by legendary aircraft designer Burt Rutan, Scaled Composites is a 40+ year-old aerospace company continually working to push boundaries, prove out ideas, and influence the future. We are a rapid prototyping and manufacturing facility, designing, building, and testing proof-of-concept and prototype vehicles. We have flown an average of one new aircraft type per year over our 40+ year history such as Proteus, Global Flyer, Space Ship One , Model 401, and Stratolaunch.

Supervisory

Responsibilities
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations for management staff.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead business development initiatives to identify, shape, and qualify new opportunities that support company growth objectives.
  • Leverage technical, analytical, and operational expertise across the organization to drive high‑impact growth opportunities.
  • Support capture and proposal efforts with strategies designed to deliver strong win probabilities and exceptional capture performance.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including team partners, industry associations, and customer decision-makers.
  • Coordinate with Bids and Proposals team to ensure that cost, schedule, and technical content for proposals are in alignment with RFP requirements and company strategic objectives.

  • Ability to operate independently with minimal oversight while delivering efficient, results‑oriented solutions.
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical approaches and findings.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational and process management capabilities.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory strengths.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate conflict and build effective relationships.
  • Ability to manage priorities and delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related tools.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance with program access.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of related experience or 8 years with a Master’s; alternatively, equivalent military or business and program experience in lieu of formal business development experience accepted
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to Travel up to 35% of the time.
  • Requires mobility and the ability to bend and reach
  • May infrequently require lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination are required; repetitive hand motion (e.g., to operate computer keyboard)
  • Vision at close distances and the ability to adjust focus for prolonged periods (i.e., computer screen)
  • Ability to remain sedentary or stationary for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to write for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in an office setting for prolonged periods of time
  • May be asked to carry up to 20 lbs. up and down a flight of stairs on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc.
  • Occasional reaching overhead and lifting up to 15 pounds
  • Ability to converse and communicate information with others
  • Occasional exposure to chemical vapors and/or fumes in low non-hazardous concentration
  • Potential to climb up and down steps on a daily basis
