MAINTENANCE AIDE (SEASONAL) – INLAND EMPIRE DISTRICT / DISTRICT MAINTENANCE /LAKE PERRIS STATE RECREATION AREA

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. The Maintenance Aide reporting location is Lake Perris State Recreation Area, 17801 Lake Perris Drive, Perris, CA 92571.

The Maintenance Aide works under the general direction of the District Maintenance Chief, and will support the District Maintenance team, collaborating with the State Park Equipment Operator, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Automobile Mechanic, Park Maintenance Worker II, and the Materials & Stores Specialist. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with vehicle maintenance tasks, supporting warehouse operations, aiding the State Park Equipment Operator with minor tasks, working on low-level, semi-skilled projects throughout the district, and various housekeeping duties to support the District Maintenance operation.

The Maintenance Aide will perform routine duties dressed in a full California State Parks uniform and adhere to the grooming standards of the Department . The uniform will be purchased by the Maintenance Aide and will be clean and in good condition at the start of each workday.

Due to a heavy visitor attendance, the Maintenance Aide position is required to work weekends and holidays. The current schedule for this position will be Wednesday through Sunday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, subject to change. Extended early morning and evening shifts may be necessary for operational need. During peak season, this position may be required to work longer than 8 hours per day when requested, but typically no more than 40 hours a week.

This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation 265.1 . This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)

Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures (over 100 degrees in the summertime and near freezing in the winter months), dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. The work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Outdoor work is common. Typical work activities involve frequent and prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
