Chief Estimator

Responsibilities

scope, risks, and pricing requirements

• Perform quantity takeoffs, labor calculations, material pricing, and subcontractor evaluations
• Manage the bid process from opportunity identification through proposal submission
• Develop and maintain estimating databases, assemblies, labor units, and historical cost information
• Review and validate estimates prepared by junior estimators to ensure accuracy and completeness
• Collaborate with project management and operations teams during project turnover and preconstruction planning
• Assist with value engineering, constructability reviews, and cost-saving recommendations
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and industry partners
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as required
• Track bid results and market trends to improve estimating accuracy and win rates
• Support recruiting, training, and development of estimating personnel

• Minimum 7+ years of electrical estimating experience in commercial, industrial, institutional, or infrastructure construction
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, installation methods, materials, and labor productivity standards
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents
• Experience preparing detailed cost estimates, budgets, and proposals
• Proficiency with estimating software, takeoff software, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, and related construction technology platforms
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable safety regulations
• Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment
• Experience mentoring junior estimators and working collaboratively with project teams preferred
• Electrical construction field experience, estimating certifications, or related technical education preferred

• Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods
• Ability to review construction drawings, specifications, and project documents in both digital and printed formats
• Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and pre-bid walkthroughs
• Ability to climb stairs, walk construction sites, and navigate uneven terrain when conducting site visits
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally
• Ability to communicate effectively in office and field environments
