Summary:
The Takeoff Estimator is responsible for reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and related bid documents to prepare accurate material and quantity takeoffs for mechanical construction projects. This position supports the estimating team by identifying required materials, equipment, and labor needs to assist in preparing project estimates and bids.
This role requires the ability to read and interpret plans, understand construction documents, maintain accuracy, and meet bid deadlines. Training on company‑specific estimating software and processes may be provided for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:- Review construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents to prepare accurate material quantity takeoffs.
- Analyze project plans to determine material, equipment, and labor requirements for commercial mechanical construction projects.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs to support project estimates and bid proposals.
- Assist estimators with labor calculations, budgeting, and cost estimates.
- Update takeoffs and estimates as project drawings and specifications are revised.
- Maintain organized estimating documentation and bid records.
- Utilize company estimating software and other technology to prepare and manage takeoffs.
- Collaborate with estimators, project managers, vendors, and other team members to gather information needed for accurate estimates.
- Meet established bid deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to learn and utilize estimating software and company systems.
- Three (3) or more years of construction estimating or quantity takeoff experience preferred.
- Mechanical construction estimating experience preferred; experience in commercial construction will also be considered.
- Experience estimating commercial construction projects ranging from approximately $500,000 to $10 million preferred.
- Experience with estimating software is preferred; training on Quotesoft will be provided for the right candidate.
- No specific degree or certification is required; relevant experience is valued over formal education.
