OverviewCTL Engineering is hiring Inspectors for Construction Services on ODOT roadway projects. The role focuses on construction administration, inspection, and testing services for state, county, and local projects, primarily roadway and bridge work, with potential involvement in water/wastewater, aviation, commercial, and municipal utility/infrastructure sectors.
Responsibilities- Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
- Read project drawings, specifications, blueprints, and work on a variety of construction projects.
- Perform construction administration and inspection services for roadway and bridge projects and municipal utility infrastructure.
- Inspect projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and proposals.
- Verify plan quantities and calculations are within bid plans.
- Prepare and maintain project records and reports in a timely manner.
- Notify the Contractor or the Project Engineer with status updates or about non-conforming work.
- Possibly conduct hazardous material surveys and asbestos abatement monitoring during abatement projects.
- Conduct quality control testing at project sites, including concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate, and reinforcing steel.
- Notify the Project Engineer with status updates or non-conforming work.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Engineer or Project Manager.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles.
- Experience with materials and lab testing and quality control testing.
- Understanding of construction or engineering services and standard testing/observation methods.
- Ability to manage projects with little or no supervision and monitor construction environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact well with others.
- Ability to work in external environmental conditions during difficult weather and provide status updates independently.
- Quality-minded and client-focused attitude.
- Strong preference if you have completed the ODOT Certified Technician program or have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- Technical school or community college graduate. Preferred:
Associate degree with 2+ years of related work experience. - 2+ years of related experience.
- Familiarity with highway construction specifications and prior field experience.
- Experience with concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and utility construction engineering services and inspection/testing.
- Experience with field and laboratory testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, masonry, structural steel, and fireproofing.
- Preferred certifications: ACI Grade I, DOT Asphalt Tech, NICET Level II Soils, ICC Special Inspections and/or CWI/NDT inspectors.
- Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
