Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Earth City

Nationally Recognized. Midwest Built.

Byrne & Jones Construction is one of the largest construction companies in the Midwest. For 50 years, our asphalt, concrete, microsurfacing, soil stabilization, engineering and design, parks, and sports divisions have built the roads, parking lots, parks, and athletic facilities communities utilize every day – and we self-perform the work other builders subcontract.

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager to own the full lifecycle execution of our design-build projects – sports and park facilities, commercial and institutional work, and site development – from preconstruction handoff through closeout and warranty. You will carry the project P&L, run the buyout, drive constructability and cost savings while changes are still inexpensive, and serve as the primary point of contact for owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.

It is a seat for a project manager who runs the job rather than reporting on it.

What You Will Own
  • The project P&L. Deliver contracted gross margin or better, and report variance monthly through our Worse-Than-Bid framework.
  • Preconstruction handoff. Take the project from Estimating, run the full budget, schedule, and scope review, and build the baseline before mobilization.
  • Buyout. Develop and execute the buyout strategy — subcontractor scoping, RFQ issuance, bid leveling, and award recommendations.
  • Constructability and cost savings. Review site plans and specifications for constructability, and surface savings in materials, methods, sequencing, and site logistics while changes remain inexpensive.
  • Risk mitigation. Identify scope gaps, differing site conditions, schedule exposure, and contract-term risk, and put mitigation plans in place before they cost you.
  • Field coordination. Partner daily with your Superintendent on execution, crew loading, equipment, and subcontractor performance.
  • The client relationship. Run OAC meetings, communicate issues before the owner hears them elsewhere, and protect the relationship through closeout and warranty.
  • Closeout. Drive punch list completion, secure final payment and retainage release, and feed lessons learned back into the next job.
What You Bring
  • Experience. Five to ten years of progressive construction project management, including ownership of budget, schedule, and client relationship on a multi-million-dollar project as lead PM.
  • Project scale. Comfort running two to four concurrent design build projects ranging from $500,000 to $5 million, including sports and park facilities.
  • Technical depth. The ability to read, interpret, and add value to civil, structural, and architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Engineering breadth. Working knowledge across disciplines — civil, structural, MEP, and geotechnical – sufficient to coordinate design and evaluate constructability. Strongly preferred.
  • Education and credentials. A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent field experience. OSHA 30 required, or obtainable within 90 days.
  • A plus. Sports facility, specialty surfacing, or park construction experience; self-perform site work; public-sector and cooperative procurement; or familiarity with HCSS and ECMS.
What We Offer
  • Base salary. Competitive and positioned at the top of the Midwest specialty construction market for this experience band.
  • Profit sharing and performance incentive. Substantial additional earning potential, tied directly to the margin, schedule, and safety performance of the projects you personally own.
  • Vehicle and equipment. Company vehicle, company gas card, and company cell phone.
  • Health coverage. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement. 401(k) with company match.
  • Time off. Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Professional development. Training and support for continuing education and certification.
  • Stability. A privately owned company that has grown across the Midwest for 50 years.
  • Core values, lived. Be an expert. Do the right thing. Preserve reputation. Do whatever it takes. Have mutual trust and respect.

Byrne & Jones Construction is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
