Job Overview
Responsible for the construction, repair, and maintenance of wooden and concrete bridge structures according to blueprints and specifications, ensuring safety and quality standards are met on heavy civil projects.
Job Responsibilities- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction documents to determine project specifications and material requirements.
- Cut, shape, and assemble timber, concrete forms, and other materials to construct and repair bridge components such as decks, pilings, abutments, and falsework.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools, including saws, drills, hammers, and measuring devices, safely and efficiently.
- Erect scaffolding, temporary structures, and shoring as needed for safe and effective construction.
- Work with concrete, including pouring, finishing, and curing, for bridge foundations and structural elements.
- Install and remove falsework, formwork, and shoring systems for bridge construction.
- Perform rigging and signaling for the safe movement of materials and equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
- Collaborate with other craftspeople, engineers, and supervisors to ensure project goals are achieved.
- Identify and report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a carpenter in heavy civil construction, specifically on bridge projects.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
- Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, tools, and materials used in bridge construction.
- Experience with concrete forming, pouring, and finishing.
- Ability to operate various hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Understanding of construction safety regulations and best practices.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Primoris Heavy Civil provides highway, port, airfield, rail and marine (intermodal transportation) construction services to private commercial and industrial clients as well as governmental entities such as the Department of Transportation and the US Army Corps of Engineers. Heavy Civil is comprised of six operating units that include North Louisiana Operations, South Louisiana Operations, Texas Operations, HMA Paving Operations, Concrete Paving Operations, and the Infrastructure Rehabilitation Unit.
