Job Description

The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world‑renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world‑class digital and app destination.

And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.

The New York Times is an industry leader in visual journalism with reporting that includes extraordinary news coverage, investigations, culture and lifestyle reporting. The Reporter Video team identifies compelling stories and brings the depth and breadth of our news report onto our site and other platforms through video that features the expertise of our world‑class journalists.

We are looking for an experienced video editor with a portfolio that demonstrates the ability to deliver engaging work on tight deadlines. You will work on short‑form vertical videos featuring The Times' world‑class journalists from our culture and lifestyle desks. You have deep experience in culture and news coverage, with a track record of creating digitally compelling short‑form video journalism. You bring deep knowledge of culture and an awareness of mobile video storytelling trends.

You're enthusiastic about collaborating with colleagues reviewing and reporting on a range of topics from music and film to fashion and real estate.

Your portfolio and work samples should reveal a strong grasp of modern mobile video storytelling, and it should show that you're a quick learner with creative ideas and the ability to work across teams. You are collaborative and solid technically with a solutions mindset, detail oriented, organized and fast.

This is an in‑office position based in New York and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.

Work with animators to incorporate animation, motion graphics and house design styles into videos.

Experiment with different formats of vertical and mobile visual storytelling.

Guiding junior staff on edits as needed.

Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
