Purpose:
As an integral part of the orchestra program, the Orchestra Technician assists in in implementing high-quality musical instruction, rehearsal techniques, and performance preparation in both full ensemble and sectional settings.
QualificationsSpecial Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong musical leadership within a string orchestra setting
- Excellent skills in:
String technique (bowing, posture, intonation, tone production) - Ensemble rehearsal techniques
- Sectional instruction
- Performance preparation
Ability to work with students
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Extensive experience in orchestral music performance and/or instruction
(e.g., professional orchestra, collegiate orchestra, private instruction, youth orchestra, or equivalent)
Major Responsibilities and Duties Essential Functions- Assist in implementing musical technique and ensemble skills in both full orchestra and sectional settings.
- Support instruction related to tone production, intonation, rhythm, balance, and ensemble cohesion.
- Teach appropriate instrumental pedagogy and ensemble skills for student success.
- Prepare individual students for success at individual auditions and competitions.
- Assist with rehearsal preparation and refinement of performance repertoire.
- Attend all performances, competitions, and festivals as requested.
- Attend scheduled rehearsals during the school year as agreed upon by Orchestra Teacher.
- Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules and board policy in the orchestra area.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental FactorsPosture: Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking; occasional reaching
Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds); may lift and move musical instruments
Environment: Work primarily inside; frequent exposure to noise.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district travel
