Adjunct Faculty – Performing Arts (Music 220: Glee)

Founded in 1863, Saint Mary's College of California is a residential campus nestled 20 miles east of San Francisco in the picturesque Moraga Valley. The College, rooted in Catholic, Lasallian, and Liberal Arts traditions, enrolls more than 4,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs.

Description

This position requires teaching MUSIC 220:
Glee
during the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. The course will be taught in person on campus on Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:10 – 8:40 pm
. The ensemble focuses on developing intermediate‑level ensemble musicianship and artistry in performance of choral arrangements across all music styles (classical, pop, jazz, funk, rock, etc.). Study includes vocal technique, diction, movement, rhythmic development, and the discernment of intervals, complex harmonies, and modes.

Responsibilities

The role is dedicated solely to ensemble instruction. All logistical responsibilities—including concert scheduling, programming, and music procurement—are managed by the Director of Choral‑Vocal Activities. Attendance at events beyond assigned rehearsals is not mandatory, though enthusiastic participation is warmly encouraged.

Qualifications
  • Teaching and conducting experience with vocal ensembles at the collegiate level (required) and/or K‑12 levels (desired).
  • Preferably familiar with Estill Voice Training techniques; a keen interest in learning about them is highly valued.
  • Residency in California.
  • Ability to teach in person on campus.

The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021 (available here).

Application Instructions
  • Include a cover letter that addresses how you meet the qualifications and how you will support the mission of the College.
  • Provide a resume or CV.
  • List the name and contact information for three professional references.
  • Sign a consent authorizing a broader inquiry, including reference checks, a motor vehicle check, and a third‑party background check.
Application Process

Applicants will submit materials through Interfolio’s Faculty Search platform. A free Dossier account will be provided for submitting application materials, including confidential letters of recommendation.
