Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the UMC Senior Director of Creative Strategy, the Multimedia Designer works in a highly collaborative environment to produce multimedia content that supports university marketing and communications initiatives. The incumbent provides end‑to‑end multimedia production services, including client consultation, project planning, design, and file management, while adapting to evolving visual styles, technologies, and brand standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan & produce multimedia projects including video campaigns, motion graphics, infographics, & promotional materials.
  • Develop, shoot & edit high‑quality video content for marketing and storytelling initiatives.
  • Manage the full production lifecycle: concept development, scripting, storyboarding, filming, editing, post‑production & final delivery.
  • Create post‑production elements such as animations, digital ads, graphics, special effects, captions & web‑ready video assets.
  • Integrate multiple media formats (video, audio, graphics, text) into cohesive digital experiences for websites, mobile platforms & marketing campaigns.
  • Design engaging branded multimedia content, interactive graphics, & web animations aligned with university brand standards.
  • Coordinate production logistics including scheduling, managing production crews, conducting interviews & organizing location shoots.
  • Evaluate project outcomes based on audience engagement, client satisfaction & achievement of communication goals.
  • Research, test & implement new multimedia technologies, tools & delivery platforms.
  • Manage & recommend video publishing platforms (You Tube, Vimeo) & support development of branded video channels to increase engagement.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced skill in working independently & collaboratively in cross‑functional teams.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of multimedia production theory, principles & best practices.
  • Extensive professional experience in multimedia design, integration, staging & production, preferably in higher education.
  • Advanced knowledge of production tools including Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, audio measurement, video switching, routing, lighting & computer graphics.
  • Proficiency with common business & production software (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, digital asset management).
  • Ability to plan, manage & execute multimedia projects, including scheduling, budgeting & resource coordination.
  • Consult with faculty, staff & stakeholders to develop productions that meet strategic communication objectives.
  • Critique & refine works in progress to ensure strong instructional design, audience impact & quality.
  • Strong research, analytical & problem‑solving skills; quickly learn new subject matter & apply to storytelling.
  • Design innovative solutions to complex communication challenges & evaluate effectiveness.
  • Experience directing/supporting live or broadcast productions with complex audio mixing, graphics & multi‑camera setups.
  • Integrate multiple media formats into cohesive multimedia experiences.
  • Strong organizational & time‑management skills to manage competing priorities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience producing media, filming & editing in broadcast, corporate or educational environments, including scriptwriting & video production.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BFA in Graphic Design, MFA in Film, Digital Media or equivalent.
  • Experience with advertising agency, digital media or animation promotion; demonstrated experience in video editing, live audio production, studio & remote production, multimedia creation & web design.
Compensation & Benefits

Classification:
Media Production Specialist III.
Anticipated hiring range: $6,618/month to $7,453/month (Step 7 – 13).
CSU salary range: $5,877/month to $8,561/month (Step 1 – 20).
