Accompanist II (Pool) – On-Call

The Accompanist II provides skilled musical support for the Department of Music on an on-call basis, collaborating closely with students and faculty. The role enhances instructional and performance excellence by accompanying lessons and recitals for vocal, wind, and string students, contributing artistry, technical expertise, and professional musicianship to academic programs.

Major Duties

Under general supervision of the Music Department Chair, the Accompanist’s primary responsibilities are to accompany students during lessons on an on-call basis. The accompanist provides support to recitals for vocal students and wind or string students and other similar duties. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Special training and/or coursework in piano performance and/or accompanying that would facilitate accompanying instrumentalists or vocalists on standard literature and new works in the classical repertoire.
  • Experience and thorough familiarity with accompanying choral groups and soloists.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: mastery in one or more of the following – string and wind repertoire, operatic and art song repertoire, fundamentals of harmony, and ability to collaborate with one or more musical instruments as accompanist; knowledge of digital recording.
  • Knowledge of repertoire from all musical periods and past experience coaching and performing with young artists.
  • Ability to improvise and/or transcribe music from recordings (preferred).
  • Classification: 2866 / Accompanist II / Grade 1
  • Hiring range: $26.69 - $30.05 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience. Salary range for this classification: $26.69 - $38.88 per hour.
  • Hours:

    Intermittent, on-call; hours and schedule vary.
  • Temporary:
    This is a Temporary-renewable position.
