Responsibilities
- Lead the transition from broadcast focused newsrooms to multi-platform newsrooms.
- Provide training in methods, processes, and tactics.
- Create and edit original content beyond what's produced for on-air broadcasts.
- Develop and lead winning strategies for station content.
- Show expert understanding of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms.
- Review copy and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation following editorial style and formatting guidelines.
- Use social media and website to build and reinforce brand recognition and drive viewers to television.
- Determine a story’s emphasis, length, and format, and organize material accordingly.
- Research and analyze background information related to news stories to provide complete and accurate information.
- Gather information about events through research, interviews, experience, or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions.
- Pitch on‑brand local and trending stories during morning meetings.
- Check reference materials such as books, news files or public records to obtain relevant facts.
- Shoot and edit content for on‑air and digital platforms.
- Produce reports for all platforms.
- Ensure that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
- Build and calendar digital campaigns to promote local shows and specials.
- Write stories for the web and other digital platforms.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Find new ways to use social media and the website to engage with viewers.
- Maintain a positive work environment through active team participation and cooperation with co‑workers in all departments.
- Respond positively to feedback.
- Degree in journalism; daily newspaper or news site experience required.
- Live, working web samples and/or print pages preferred.
- Proficiency in Associated Press style, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Basic HTML.
- Preferred skills in CSS, Flash, and other relevant technology.
