The Broadcast & Sports Information Director assists with broadcast communications and contributes to social media, digital media, sports information, and multimedia activities for assigned sports. The incumbent develops and distributes timely and accurate content while interacting and communicating effectively with student-athletes, athletics staff, local, regional, and national media representatives, San José State University alumni, fans, followers, and supporters of the athletics program;

conference and institutional partners, including personnel affiliated with the Mountain West Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Western Athletic Conference, and West Coast Conference; and representatives of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Key Responsibilities
  • Interact with traditional media, internet outlets, and social media representatives; coordinate media relations, report results, produce engaging game recaps, and prepare news items covering sports teams and student-athletes. Create and maintain current and historical records and files on teams, coaches, and student-athletes.
  • Utilize social and digital media skills to develop and produce compelling news items, features, and multimedia content highlighting sports teams, student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and athletics staff.
  • Enhance live broadcast productions through the integration of graphics, instant replay, and other industry-standard production techniques.
  • Serve as a member of the production crew for game-day video board presentations and online web-stream broadcasts.
  • Serve as the lead contact for vendors and student assistants working game-day events, providing direction and coordinating responsibilities to ensure efficient and successful event operations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of broadcast production techniques, processes, equipment, and technologies, including camera operation, lighting, audio, and live-event production.
  • General knowledge of production principles and practices for instructional, promotional, and athletics-related media.
  • Working knowledge of multimedia authoring tools and techniques for developing and delivering interactive digital content through synchronous and asynchronous platforms.
  • Demonstrated photographic skills, including digital photography, image processing, editing, manipulation, and preparation of visual content for print and digital distribution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and communicate with diverse internal and external constituencies, including student-athletes, athletics staff, media representatives, alumni, fans, supporters, conference and institutional partners, and NCAA personnel.
  • Strong research, information-gathering, and content-development skills, with the ability to identify and utilize appropriate resources and techniques to communicate information through digital, photographic, video, and multimedia productions.
  • Ability to understand operating procedures and underlying technologies in order to effectively operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and resolve basic technical issues involving broadcast, production, computer, and multimedia equipment and systems.
  • Ability to train, provide work lead direction, and effectively collaborate with students involved in broadcast, media, communications, and production projects.
  • Ability to organize work, establish priorities, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and consistently meet established deadlines in a fast-paced athletics environment.
